The heart of Upper Silesia, Katowice blends restored mining heritage with modern city life — a practical base for going to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and, on another day, to Energylandia. Our visit was limited to a few hours on a single afternoon, which is why this guide only has one section for now, “Things to Do & Sights”. What struck us most was the city's energy, driven by several nearby universities: the centre was full of stylish young students, far from the sometimes austere image of industrial Upper Silesia.
