About us

The whole family's sneakers planted in the sand, during our road trip across Poland

Who we are

We are a couple with two teenagers, based in Marseille, France, and what we love most of all is travelling together, the four of us. I'm Jérôme R, and I run this site.

For us, Poland is first and foremost a family story. My wife's maternal grandmother was Polish, born in Katowice: my wife grew up with stories of her youth there, and Polish food has always been a taste of childhood at our family table. She had long dreamt of following in the footsteps of her grandmother, and we wanted our two teenagers to discover this part of our roots for themselves.

We finally did it in July 2026, on our first family road trip there: two weeks on the road, just under 3,000 kilometres, from Kraków to the Baltic coast. In Katowice, near the remains of the old mine right in the city centre, we came across houses that looked just like the ones her grandmother used to describe. The whole family came home wanting to return: to spend more time in the Tatras, and finally to discover Warsaw and Gdańsk.

What we experienced, and what we haven't seen

Most pages draw directly on that trip: the notes we kept day after day, our photos, our receipts and our invoices. Under each page title, a short line tells you whether it is based on our time there, on our time there backed by research, or on research only.

We have not yet visited Warsaw, Gdańsk and the Tricity or the Wieliczka Salt Mine, and we have not hiked to Morskie Oko lake or through the Kościeliska valley. Those pages are research-based guides, built from official sources (museums, tourist offices, transport operators), with no personal anecdotes.

How we work

The memories, photos, prices and opinions are our own. We use artificial intelligence tools to help shape the texts. Every page is then reread, and its facts, opening times and figures are checked against our own documents or official sources before publication.

The site is written in French, then translated into English, German, Spanish and Italian with the help of artificial intelligence, and checked (meaning, figures, place names). I am not fluent in all these languages: if you spot a mistake or an awkward phrase, please tell us via the Contact page and we will fix it.

When information changes (prices, opening times, access), we update the page; the date of the last update is shown under each title.

Our approach

Practical, verified information over superlatives: indicative prices, real constraints (transport, seasons, bookings), the good and the less good surprises.

Our independence

poloniaguide.com currently receives no payment of any kind: no advertising, no affiliate links, no free stays. Links to service providers are purely editorial.

If the site ever includes affiliate links, they will be clearly labelled on the pages concerned and in the legal notice, and there will never be any on pages about places of remembrance such as the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial.

City by city

The site currently covers Kraków, Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Poznań, Katowice, Zakopane and the Tatras, as well as Łeba and the Hel Peninsula, and will keep growing with our next trips to Poland.
