Budget and Cost of Living in Poland: Our Real Figures

By · Visited in July 2026 · Updated · How we work

How much does a trip to Poland really cost? Rather than generic estimates, here's our full budget, costed item by item from our own receipts and bank statements, for two weeks on the road as a family of 4.

Our total budget (real floor)

True story, July 2026: our total budget, calculated from prepaid payments and expenses recorded on the ground, comes to around €6,350 for 14 nights, for 4 people — an average of about €450/day for the whole family, including international travel and car hire. This figure is a floor: our receipt records cover only about 60-70% of day-to-day spending, whereas the fixed items (flights, car, accommodation) are complete.

  • Flights (Ryanair, return, family of 4): €864
  • Car hire (base rate + compulsory insurance): €755
  • Fuel (≈2,900 km covered): €381
  • Accommodation (7 stays, 14 nights): €2,028 — see what accommodation to choose in Poland
  • Restaurants: €383 — see what to eat in Poland
  • Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial (guided tour): around €180
  • Other sightseeing and leisure (Energylandia, Wawel, the spa...): around €325
  • Supermarket: €98 · Parking: €76 · Tolls: €21 · Other: €63
  • Total (floor): around €6,350

What that looks like day to day

For a more concrete idea: a restaurant meal averaged 52-75 zł per person (roughly €12-17), with a range from 16 to 120 zł depending on whether it was just a drink or a full meal. A 50cl draught beer on a terrace was around 19 zł (€4.40), a pizza in the mountains between 34 and 45 zł, and an ice cream between 9 and 27 zł.

What we actually paid, item by item (July 2026)

True story, July 2026: these prices come from our own receipts, invoices and bank statements (family of four, high season). Euro amounts use the rate shown on our statements, about 4.3 zł to €1.

  • Still water, 1.5 L (supermarket): 3.99 zł (€0.93)
  • Coca-Cola, 50 cl (supermarket): 5.99 zł (€1.39)
  • Draught beer, 50 cl (restaurant): 19 zł (€4.42); 30 cl beer in a Kraków bar: 15 zł (€3.49)
  • Pizza in a restaurant (Zakopane): 34–45 zł (€8–10)
  • Ice cream (Kraków): 9–27 zł (€2–6) depending on size
  • Restaurant meal: typically 52–75 zł per person (€12–17)
  • Unleaded 95 petrol: 7.39–7.59 zł per litre (€1.72–1.77)
  • A4 motorway toll: 18 zł per toll gate (€4.19)
  • Pay-and-display parking (Łeba): about 6 zł per hour (€1.40)
  • Wawel Castle, reduced fare: 35 zł for the underground exhibition (€8.14), 43 zł for the castle's first floor (€10), 10 zł for the Dragon's Den (€2.33)
  • Chochołowskie Thermal Baths, 4-hour family pass "2 adults + 1 child" (child aged 3 to 16): 245 zł (€57) in summer and Friday to Sunday, 195 zł (€45) Monday to Thursday outside summer (official 2026 price list). Our eldest is over 16, so she counts as an adult: our receipt from 20 July therefore adds an "extra adult" at 115 zł (€27), making 360 zł (€84) for the four of us — that supplement doesn't appear on the published price list. If both your children are under 16, the "2 + 2" pass (285 zł in summer, about €66) works out cheaper
  • Energylandia: 114.50–229 zł per ticket in high season (€27–53), i.e. 687 zł for the four of us (2 adults and 2 teenagers)
  • These prices date from July 2026 and may have changed since.

The price of petrol in Poland

True story, July 2026: we paid between 7.39 and 7.59 zł a litre for unleaded 95 (roughly €1.72-€1.77), so a full tank (~45 litres) came to between 335 and 345 zł (€78-€80). Over the whole trip (around 2,900 km covered), our total fuel budget came to around €381, generally cheaper than what we'd pay back home at the same time of year.
