Our own journey

True story, July 2026: our own trip to the Tatras area didn't start from central Kraków, but from Piotrowice, near Oświęcim. In under two hours on the road, we reached our accommodation in the village of Ciche, with the scenery changing completely — from flat plains to the first mountain foothills.

Most of the journey ran along national roads through a string of small villages, where you need to slow down at every crossing (typically to between 40 and 70 km/h).

What we took away from it: if you're setting off from central Kraków as the classic route assumes, a car remains the fastest and most flexible option for exploring the region afterwards at your own pace.
