The Tricity offers several faces of the Polish Baltic, from the country's busiest beach to quieter coves, all a few minutes apart by train. Complete your visit with our guide to sightseeing in the Tricity.

Sopot, Poland's busiest beach

Right at the foot of the pier, this is the busiest, most fashionable beach on the Polish coast, topping several rankings of the Baltic's most crowded spots in summer. Best suited to those after atmosphere rather than peace and quiet at the height of the season.

Gdynia and Gdańsk, quieter beaches

The beaches of Gdynia (around Orłowo, with its cliff) and those of Gdańsk (Brzeźno, Jelitkowo, Stogi) are wider, well served by tram, and reputedly less touristy than Sopot's.

Comparison with Łeba

Compared with Łeba and its Hel Peninsula, already covered on this site, the Tricity offers a more urban, busier experience: fewer dunes and wild nature, but more infrastructure, nightlife and architectural heritage within reach of the beach.

Water temperature and best time to visit

  • June: around 15 to 18°C.
  • July: around 18 to 22°C.
  • August: around 18 to 21°C.
  • September: around 15 to 17°C.
  • The best time for swimming is therefore the second half of July and early August. A quirk of the Polish Baltic: a cold-water upwelling, linked to easterly winds, can drop the temperature by several degrees within hours, even in high summer.
